Zack Snyder Casts Doubt On Batman Prequel Series With Ben Affleck

Justice League director Zack Snyder doesn’t know if Ben Affleck would be open to suiting up again as Batman for a prequel series.

Ben Affleck’s Batman has become a fan favorite after several films despite the initial negative reaction to his casting by many. We know Affleck will return to play Bruce Wayne in Ezra Miller’s The Flash, but it’s unclear if he will suit up again. While some hope for a continuation of Affleck’s older Batman, others are more interested in seeing his past.

In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Ben Affleck’s Batman and Jared Leto’s Joker discuss Robin’s death. With 20 years of Gotham under Batman’s utility belt, that is just one of the many stories that could be explored. In a recent interview courtesy of ComicBook.com, Snyder thought the idea of a Batman prequel series was great, but he was also unsure if Affleck would be game for it:

“I think all those are great ideas. I think Martian Manhunter or Deathstroke are great ideas for this kind of prequel concept where you’re back with Batman and his young ward and their just doing what they did for 20 years in Gotham. That would be an interesting thing. I don’t know if Ben would want to do that. Because it’s such a vast canvas you can poke into it anywhere you want and find a kind of small story that would be interesting to tell, you know. I mean, Deathstroke’s origin is an amazing place to go and look.”

Here is the official synopsis for the Snyder Cut:

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
