Ms Murdoch said she was selling her three-bedroom property at 22 Madden St with $2.5m-$2.75m price hopes due to a work commitments, wanting to travel more and a desire to downsize.
She purchased the circa-1900 home in 2011, attracted by the historic features — including a 6.3m wide facade, 3.35m high ceilings, ornamental plasterwork and marble fireplaces.
The location is close to Albert Park’s shops, cafes, hotels and the area’s famous lake
Proximity to the beach and being along a quiet street was also a drawcard – a contrast to the bustling international locations she often jets off to.
“It’s so welcoming coming back here and being able to walk to the coffee shop and local wine bar where everyone knows your name, it’s such a friendly community,” Ms Murdoch said.
“I have got a beautiful balcony and views of the city skyline.”
She renovated the property, including the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry, just before Covid-19 hit Australia.
Her friend, Sydney-based architect Anna Vaughan, assisted with the project.
“When I bought the house, it was in French provincial style, it had lime green walls and maroon velvet walls,” Ms Murdoch said.
The renovation saw bespoke charcoal cabinetry, stone benchtops and three ovens installed in “the lovely entertainer’s kitchen” from which French doors open to a “tranquil” courtyard containing trailing greenery and a water feature adorned by lion’s heads.
Marshall White Port Phillip director Oliver Bruce described the home as “very ornamental and beautifully renovated.”
“It would suit couples, families and downsizers,” Mr Bruce said.
Since 2020, Ms Murdoch has helped to plan and deliver the 2022 FIFA World Cup as a principal and lead technical specialist, working with the Qatar government and officials.
She also worked on White Night Melbourne events, the 2019 Pan American Games and several Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games in roles including as an expert and lead adviser.
The auction will be held at 11.30am on September 3.
