Whopping price for showstopping Moriac home with swimming pool and cubby house
A SHOWSTOPPING Moriac home was hot property at auction on Saturday, with five bidders pushing the price over $2m.
Local buyers paid $2.015m for the five-bedroom residence at 9 Lavinia Court, setting a residential sales record for the town in the process.
The buyers first inspected the 0.43ha property three weeks ago and were drawn to Moriac’s quiet location.

“We’re from Anglesea, originally from Geelong,” the buyer said.
“We were looking for a bit of a country change, from the sea to the country.”
Bidding opened at $1.5m for the property that was listed with price expectations of $1.5m to $1.6m, and slowly climbed before the buyer made a late play to secure the keys.
McGrath, Newtown listing agent Mergim Ibrahimi said more than 100 groups had inspected the home during the campaign.
“We had 15-odd people that were going to bid,” Mr Ibrahimi said.
“An incredible result, obviously, this far above reserve you can’t say it was expected.
“The numbers and the statistics and everything could suggest that something like this could have happened.
“The reserve was set within the range we quoted, we didn’t deviate from that.
“It’s certainly set the benchmark for Moriac by over half a million.”
The lavish country pad offers two living zones, a study nook and cottage gardens.
High ceilings, hardwood flooring, feature cornice, French doors, double-hung, casement and leadlight feature windows add to the charm inside.
And, the new owners have a Regency wood fire to keep their toes cosy during winter.
Outside features include a swimming pool, cubby house, fire pit, and a designated home for the chooks, rabbits and firewood.
There’s direct gate access to a playground, skate park, and tennis courts behind the property.
The previous residential sales record was held by 5 Kim-Marie Mews Moriac, which sold for $1.475m in December last year.
