What’s the Best Thing You’ve Eaten Lately?

A few weeks ago, some friends and I went to a late dinner at a tiny candlelit Mediterranean restaurant in Fort Greene. Before we reached our table, my friend Ryanne was already gushing about all the different plates we had to try. After she listed off sweet potato hummus and lamb skewers, a reverence came over her voice: “And the whipped ricotta dip. We must get the whipped ricotta.”

It was the first thing out of her mouth when the server asked for our order, and I soon realized why. After a parade of tiny plates came to our table, one by one, I went straight for the ricotta. I had to see if it lived up to the hype. You know those moments when you figured something would be good, but you didn’t realize HOW GOOD? With the first bite, I had that moment. Had everything I’d eaten up to this point been a lie? How had I just now experienced something this good? It was the best thing I’d eaten all year and probably in my life.

“Didn’t I tell you?” Ryanne said and looked at me with a smirk. I was a believer. I knew I wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about it until I found a recipe, and, thankfully, the internet delivered. I can’t wait to make this myself at home (the secret is the browned butter!) but I have a feeling nothing will replace the feeling of that first bite.

What’s the best thing you’ve eaten lately? I’d love to hear!

P.S. A perfect snacking cake and do you have a secret family recipe?
