‘What If…?’ Season 3 Will Bring Uatu The Watcher’s MCU Story To An End

Uatu the Watcher’s time in the MCU may be nearing its end! What If…? executive producer teases the narrative conclusion awaiting fans at the end of season 3.

What If…? has been one of the most interesting and satisfying experiments in the MCU’s multiverse saga. However, with season 3 being its final season, it seems the multiversal remixes aren’t the only thing coming to a close. According to executive producer Brad Winderbaum, the series will wrap up the story of Uatu the Watcher in a satisying way.

“It feels like the completion of a trilogy,” Winderbaum explained on the Official Marvel Podcast. “It takes us to places that you’d never expect. It goes beyond the first two seasons in its exploration of the multiverse. It pulls in characters that are very unexpected, and has what I think is an extremely moving and very fulfilling culmination for Uatu the Watcher.”

Uatu the Watcher has changed a lot through What If…?, having gone from a pure observor of the MCU to someone willing to bring in those he trusts to fight for it. Could fans see him take up arms himself in the final season? Even if he doesn’t, it’s clear the character has some crazy times in store when season 3 hits streaming.

Uatu The Watcher’s Future In The MCU

Even though Uatu The Watcher’s story may be coming to an end in What If….? season 3, there’s still a chance he makes a cameo in other MCU projects. The Watchers infamously made a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, although none appeared to be Uatu himself.

Following What If…? season 3, the next most likely MCU project for Uatu the Watcher to appear in is actually The Fantastic Four. When it was revealed what projects inspired the script, one featured Uatu prominently. Even the project’s codename suggests that The Watcher may live on beyond the final season of his Disney Plus show.
