We Tried Aldi’s New Low-Carb Tortillas That Are Made of Egg Whites — and … Wow

How do you like your eggs in the morning? If you’re an Aldi shopper, you might have a new favorite way to eat ’em … in wrap form! Starting February 17th, as a limited time Aldi Find, Egglife Foods Original Egg White Wraps will be available in the refrigerated section. They cost $3.99 per pack of six (a dollar less than they typically retail for elsewhere).

I got my hands on a package before they hit shelves, and to be completely honest, I was not expecting much. At 5g of protein and 25 calories each, these gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, and soy-free wraps aren’t the most exciting thing out there. But, boy did I underestimate them.

These wraps look just like mini tortillas — except they’re made of egg whites. To prepare, carefully separate them within the bag. You can eat these cold (they’re surprisingly more flavorful than you might think) or you can warm them through on the stovetop for just 15 seconds per side. Like a tortilla, these wraps make for the perfect blank slate, great for experimenting with flavors and fillings.

To start, I made a breakfast quesadilla with some shredded Monterey Jack cheese and a dash of Cholula. The texture is perfectly bouncy — but don’t cook them for too long or they will border on rubbery. Once I finished, I wanted another. Good thing I can think of a ton of ways to use these tortilla replacements, namely via this TikTok tortilla trend that recently took the internet by storm.

The wraps, which launched in October 2019, come in four flavors: Original, Southwest Style, Italian Style, and Rye Style, and typically retail for $4.99. This Aldi rollout will be their first nationwide offering, as they’ve mostly only been distributed in the Midwest. Right now, fans can find the other flavors at Sprouts, Shaws, Star Market, Hornbacher’s, and more — but our guess is if this launch goes well, they’ll become permanent staples at Aldi, too.

Would you try egg white wraps?
