Want for nothing in this builder’s own coastal home

A Henley Beach South home has been built with love and offers a contemporary lifestyle and more than a touch of elegance.

Grange Homes builder Tony Caruso built the property for his wife Tiziana and their family in 2016, sparing no expense to create their dream home and craft what has become a showpiece for his company and one of which he is immensely proud.

“We built the home for ourselves and the intention was for it to be something we’d keep long term, but with us having two very active boys who like to run around, our situation’s changed a little bit,” Mr Caruso says. “This is a very important home to us and we love Henley Beach South, because it’s a beautiful spot. West Beach isn’t great for swimming and then Henley Beach is just a bit too busy, but Henley Beach South has pristine water and it’s just quieter, so when you go on the beach it feels almost private, but then the walk to Henley Square is lovely and we’d walk there to get breakfast as a family quite often. That’s the reason we picked that spot, definitely.

“We wanted to create a holiday environment and the design was to give us that coastal feeling of sunrises over the water and the smell of the ocean but with some of the quality fittings you wouldn’t find in a normal holiday home. Like the upgraded kitchen appliances, the larger ensuite with twin showers, the balcony to the master bedroom and a balcony to the main living area, the alfresco area, the pool – these are things you don’t find in every holiday rental. So we’ve thrown everything we can at it and used the best materials. Being a builder, I wanted to use sustainable materials and materials that are going to have a long life and require as little maintenance as possible. We didn’t spare any expense, and we didn’t compromise on quality, and the home still looks exactly the same now as it did when we first built the property.”

The home, set over three elevator-serviced levels, has four bedrooms – all on the upper floor. The master suite is set at the front in its own wing and features a private balcony, a walk-in robe and a luxurious ensuite with a deep feature bath, a walk-in double shower with an inbuilt seat, and a double vanity. There’s also a family bathroom and a living area on this level, while downstairs, on the first floor, you’ll find the home’s main living and entertaining areas.

The kitchen is set in the heart of this level, and is complete with a large island bench and quality appliances. It opens to a living area opening to a balcony for alfresco entertaining at the front; and to a meals area opening to an outdoor entertainment area overlooking a sparkling swimming pool at the rear.

A triple garage occupies the lower level.

With so much space, Mr Caruso says the home is a fantastic entertainer.

“The main level was designed to be a big open-plan area with a 5m benchtop so that you could gather around it and it be areal central point to the home,” he says. “Being a centrepiece, we’d set that up with a banquet of food and have friends and family over and have some sitting on the balcony, the kids in the pool, some in the back retreat area and others around the dining table having some crackers and wine, so it was basically designed so you could have 50 people in the home without any worries at all. Having a big garage down the bottom is great too because I can keep my cars down there, and we’ve also turned half of that into a gym for the kids too, so it’s been great.”

Mr Caruso says the home has been a standout of his career and a fantastic showcase of what his company is capable of.

“It’s one of the nicest homes we’ve ever built,” he says. “It’s for those who love the beach lifestyle and want to enjoy the finer things in life. We are incredibly proud of what we’ve created here – it’s a lovely home.”

With the family now requiring more backyard for their active sons, the time has come to offer the home up for another family to enjoy it.

“It’s been great here, but the boys are needing more room to run, so it will be fantastic to hand it over to someone who will love it like we have.”
