Unwanted lottery prize of a whole apartment block up for grabs
BUYERS have the chance to snap-up an unwanted charity prize of an entire apartment block worth more than $8m on the beachfront in Tugun.
The boutique complex of five apartments in the growth corridor of Golden Four Dr was the major prize in the RSL Lottery’s Christmas draw.
Yet the winners, Sydneysider Mark Wu and his family, have decided to sell the newly-built block, creating a rare opportunity for buyers and investors.
Mr Wu said he had bought tickets in the RSL every month for almost four years as a means of supporting the charity.
“As far as the prizes go, well I just though if I win, I win, but I never dreamed I would,” he said. “When they rang to tell me, I thought it was a scam.”
The family, who have been to the Gold Coast a handful of times, only laid eyes on their new prize in February.

“It was the first opportunity we had to come and look at it because of Covid,” Mr Wu said.
“It’s so beautiful, the way it is styled and the views over the ocean. It will be sad to let it go.”
Sat on a 714sq m block, each of the five apartments is built and finished to the highest of standards. It is aimed at low-maintenance living, while maximising on its location and the prime ocean views.
Rising to four storeys, the first and second levels each have a two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartment, with open-plan kitchen, living and dining areas that extend out to a terrace. The third floor is reserved for the penthouse, which has five bedrooms, including a luxury master, and a private rooftop terrace.
On the ground floor is parking for 10 cars as well as bike storage, a communal barbecue area and pool.
Asked if he was tempted to keep at least of the units for the family, he said: “We don’t holiday regularly on the Gold Coast, so the apartment would be sitting empty.
“We already have our house in Sydney and the girls are settled in schools. We enjoy our lifestyle and don’t really want it to change.
“We are better off investing in something in Sydney, which we can then pass on to our children, so they have security in their future.”
But before that, Mr Wu said he would be splashing some of the money from the sale on a family trip overseas.
“I never travelled as a kid and I would love my children to have that experience. For us, it’s all about the children,” Mr Wu said.
Marketing agent Jamie Harrison of Kollosche said the apartment complex presented a rare and remarkable investment opportunity.
Each apartment is on its own title so the apartment’s can be sold off indivually in future.
The property is open to expressions of interest closing on May 10 at 5pm.
