This is the way!

The Mandalorian and Wonder Woman 1984 star Pedro Pascal has been cast as Joel in HBO’s upcoming The Last of Us series.

On Wednesday, rumors started floating around that Blade star Mahershala Ali was being eyed to play Joel in HBO’s upcoming video game series. However, it was later reported that Ali was circling the project, but a deal never came to pass. Later on in the day, HBO cast Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey as Ellie, and now shortly after, the highly-anticipated adaptation has found its Joel in The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal.

According to Deadline, The Mandalorian‘s Pedro Pascal is set to star opposite Bella Ramsey in The Last of Us series coming to HBO as Joel. The upcoming project comes from Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and the original game’s writer Neil Druckmann with Kantemir Balagov set to direct the show’s pilot.

The Last of Us centers on the relationship between a smuggler named Joel and 14-year-old Ellie, the latter of whom may be the key to curing the deadly pandemic that resulted in the post-apocalypse world of the game. Hired to smuggle Ellie out of a quarantine zone, Joel finds himself relying on the teenage girl just as much as she relies on him as they fight to survive on their journey across the United States. The HBO adaptation will cover the events of the first game, with the second game potentially surviving as the basis for additional content.
