The Block has been hinting for a few days now that Omar and Oz are going to be brought down by a cheating scandal.

First former contestant Ronnie worded the other teams up to the fact he thought the pair had done deals with friends and family members to work for free, and tonight Shaynna Blaze worries aloud that with the amount they must be spending on trades for the likes of Venetian plaster in a butler’s pantry, they must surely be about to run out the cash.

In fact, the pair are flush, with a nice wad building up to tackle their landscaping.

It could be a hint of what’s to come, but there’s no full scale eruption yet. Maybe the bean counters are still going through the boys’ invoices line by line to make their case.

Tonight finds Rachel still at a low ebb, although her spirits are raised by, of all people, Keith, who tells her he thinks the judges are getting it wrong when evaluating her house.

“I’ll tell you what, you’re doing a bloody good job. The judges mightn’t think so but I do,” he says as she faces yet another dispiriting day knowing her baby boy is unwell in another state, and with the judges’ words “bland”, “boring” and “safe” echoing around her head.

When her bench top arrives 20mm short it breaks her and she leaves to weep in her car for a spell.

At least she feels better about Ronnie being around to teach Sharon and Ankur how to paint. He comes over to assure her he’s only put a bit of undercoat on a small patch of wall to show them how to do it.

Then it’s judgment time, and sadly there’s no respite for Rachel and Ryan who are again accused of delivering a “soulless” room.

They’ve gone all white in their $20,358 kitchen, with shiny chrome ball pendant lights over a white island bench with a timber wrap around breakfast bar, plus timber beams and open shelving.

“It is a kitchen without a soul,” Shaynna says. “All the boxes have been ticked but I was expecting to see some kind of drama.”

Neale is even harsher.

“This kitchen and its butter’s pantry is a collection of cupboards, drawers and shelves,” he says.

This time though, Ryan and Rachel admit they didn’t present a room they 100 per cent loved themselves.

“We sat back this morning and looked at it and I think we could have done better,” Ryan says. The pair come last with a score of 24.

The winners, with three perfect 10s, are Tom and Sarah-Jane, for their freestanding copper toned range with a built in pot-filler, double barn doors to their butler’s pantry, rose gold fridge and mixture of different metals on handles and light-fittings.

“That is mastery,” Darren Palmer says of the $31,956 room.

Coming equal-second with Jenny and Dylan are Omar and Oz, despite installing $250,000 worth of appliances you’ve probably never even heard of.

Neale ‘traumatised’ by team’s messy effort

They went for polished concrete floors, timber feature ceiling, enormous concrete island with galley sink and built-in bar in their $30,492 kitchen.

It’s unashamedly modern, and dramatic.

“It’s not a kitchen that I would put in a country house, but they’ve got the confidence of loving this aesthetic. This is them,” Neale Whitaker says.

Dylan and Jenny were robbed with their equal-second place.

Their sage cabinetry with brass mesh insets and ribbed glass, timber floors and panelling behind enormous stove would have been hard to beat in any other Block season.

They spent $24,322 for a room Neale said had “personality and spirit and soul”.

Just not enough, apparently.
