The Block 2022 episode 17 master bedroom reveal: Omar and Oz hit skids while judges can’t find fault in Tom and Sarah-Jane
Omar and Oz go from heroes to zeros this week.
After the highs of their magnificent ensuite and main bathrooms, they’re languishing at the back of the pack, due to a cluttered $22,560 master bedroom with cheap shelving and an ottoman that blocks the entry to their ensuite.
The judges quite like the way they reused their home’s original fretwork to create an entrance to a study nook, but with the 15 cent brackets, collection of op shop paperbacks, plant and desk, they’ve overcrowded it.

“It’s too much. My eye doesn’t know where to look,” judge Neale Whitaker says.
“Since when does a master have to give so much space to a study and reading nook?”
Shaynna Blaze’s issue isn’t so much the idea of the nook, but its lack of presence.
“The nook should be grand,” she says.
Is it possible for a nook to be grand? Only Shaynna knows.
But it’s triumph tonight for Tom and Sarah-Jane, who, between hilarious fights, have come up with something the judges love.
Their $26,127 cosy space has a wood-burning stove, olive green feature wall, wainscotting and rattan bed head.
The judges struggle to come up with a single criticism. Shaynna’s the only one who can find one — she thinks the fact the walk-in robe has entirely open shelving and hanging space is impractical given it can be seen from the bed.
Neale gives the room the pair’s first perfect 10.
“I feel that Tom and Sarah-Jane are really nailing this aesthetic that we’re calling new country,” he says.
Ankur and Sharon may have been winners in any other week thanks to their $35,649 glam French-inspired master and walk-in robe.
Sharon has spent $500 at the Salvation Army for a genuine antique bureau and bedside tables and positioned the bed to make the most of views of Mt Macedon.

“I don’t think we’ve ever seen antique furniture on The Block. This is extraordinary,” Neale says.
There’s also a grand gilt-framed mirror which doubles as a TV, a whimsical Marie Antoinette portrait, huge ceiling rose and floor to ceiling velvet bedhead.
And they’ve reused the home’s 140 year-old front door as a dramatic entry to the master suite. Only the lighting gets the thumbs down, and the pair also earn a warning from Shaynna that they’re spending too much money.
Even their painting has improved.
“By the end of it we might actually have a well painted room,” Darren comments. Keep an eye on your phone for a pissed off text from Sharon, Darren.
Jenny and Dylan have spent $25,170 on their master suite, where entry is via double doors into a white and timber walk-in robe.
The judges agree that entering a bedroom via a walk-in robe isn’t something that should work, but it does.
Unfortunately the robe’s perfect styling and island isn’t quite matched by what’s behind it.
A badly finished bay window reading nook, dodgy painting and lack of pelmets in the bedroom let them down.
“It sets you up for what the master bedroom is going to be, and then you walk in here and it’s nice, but it lacks that oomph,” Neale says.
Ryan and Rachel are riding high on the judges’s feedback for their $22,834 room.
Their centrepiece is a stone-stacked fire place, in front of a four poster bed.
A custom-made barn door marks the entry to the walk-in robe.
A stingily-sized rug and the judges’ dreaded dried flowers are the only real quibbles.
“It’s got me by the heartstrings,” Darren says, adding that he now loves the ensuite bathroom it leads to ever more than he did last week.
Sarah-Jane seems to have forgotten her turmoil over her spat with Sharon in her giddiness at the win.
“I tell you all the time, put your energy into your own shit,” Tom reminds her.
Words to live by.
