Taylors Lakes home soars above reserve as Albert Park beauty sells for $9.9m

44 Merton Street, Albert Park sold for an eye-watering $9.9 million.

A “happy family home” in Taylors Lakes sold almost $150,000 above reserve on Saturday.

The two-storey property, which had been vacant since its owners moved to the Gold Coast last year, achieved a $1.025 million sale via an online auction with 10 bidders — who weren’t deterred by Melbourne’s extended Covid-19 lockdown.

Barry Plant western zone director James Hatzimoisis said the home, at 99 Nordic Ave, was “really well located” with great access to amenities.

He said the buyers were a local family who had been looking to upgrade.

Vendors Grant and Diane Rintoul — who built the home and raised three kids before retiring to Broadbeach — said they would miss hosting weekly family dinners but hoped the new owners would “have the time of their lives, like we did”.

Meanwhile in Albert Park an immaculate home which served as a maternity hospital during WWII notched an incredible $9.9 million sale on Friday — a massive $1.2 million over the vendor’s reserve.

The landmark Victorian at 44 Merton Street, named ‘Lorimer’, has only had three owners since 1944 and went under the hammer a day prior than planned.

An original price guide of $8.2-$8.6 million was quickly eclipsed with an opening bid of $9 million — which was also above the vendor’s $8.7 million reserve.

Simon Gowling and Max Mercuri, of Greg Hocking Albert Park, said the vendors and new owners were “ecstatic” with the sale.
