Sunbury house price records tumble with $2m mansions

Two Sunbury mansions set to sell within the same month for more than $2m each are setting a new luxury benchmark for the “semirural paradise” suburb.

The five-bedroom pad at 2-18 Obeid Drive featuring its own playground, tennis court and sauna sold for a massive $2.2m this month, marking a new residential record in an urban growth zone in the suburb, according to CoreLogic records.

A second spectacular house at 25 Callander Close is also poised to reach a record price after being marked under offer this week.

One Agency director Adrian Sacco said the 0.56ha Obeid Drive property was snapped up by a family from the western suburbs who would move into the home.

“The property offers resort-style living with a tennis court and large spaces for a growing family, which was really appealing for them,” Mr Sacco said.

Striking gardens, a spiral staircase and penthouse-inspired balconies were other design drawcards.

Mr Sacco said Sunbury offered “fantastic value for money” and was experiencing a rise in popularity as people sold up in suburbs closer to the CBD in search of “wide open spaces” after lockdown.

“For those people who were trapped in Melbourne on your average 500sq m block, there’s a movement towards the old Great Australian Dream, which is the idea of a big house and big block of land,” the agent said.

She said her office had been “inundated with inquiries” for the lifestyle offerings of the area.

“It’s essentially a semirural paradise,” Ms Roberts said.

“People are being pushed out of other suburbs and Sunbury is just 30 minutes from the CBD.”

The sprawling 5633sq m Kookaburra Homestead at 83 Spavin Drive previously was the most expensive house in Sunbury, selling for $1.7m in December.
