Playing with LEGO: Brick Beats From A Modular Sequencer

There are a plethora of hardware sequencers on the market with eurorack offering the most versatile and innovative options out there. The A02 Brick Sequencer comes with a unique control style for your modular system, using your colourful Lego bricks to trigger beats! It’s got four tracks to send the output to different elements and features patch save and recall, to bring that beat back!

The A02 is an updated version of Atonal’s Brick Sequencer, with this particular model offering a novel and tactile way to interact within the process of making music. Each track has a 16 step pattern to trigger, with four 3.5mm outputs to send the gated signal to. It also features a clock input to set the tempo externally and a reset input to bring the playback to step one of the patterns. It could be easily be used with synths or samples as well as drum hits!

You’ll notice each track has a small LED which illuminates when a sound is triggered and a mute switch to temporarily turn off that channel. It’s made by Atonal circuits who are based in Belgium. See the sequencer in action in the video below and please note: other modules are required to trigger sounds. It’s time to put the Lego monorail to good use!
