Maverick Weller: Former Saint sells Moorabbin investment near club

Maverick Weller’s Moorabbin investment property has found a buyer.

Former Saint Maverick Weller has kicked his Moorabbin investment property into new hands.

Walshe & Whitelock’s Peter Sowersby said a couple snapped up the three-storey, four-bedroom pad for $1.33m after it failed to sell at auction in December.

The property at 1a Sheppard Street was initially listed with $1.28-$1.38m price hopes but Mr Sowersby said Weller was “happy” with the result.

The former footballer said he regretted that he never got the chance to live at the property.

“The three-level layout wasn’t for everyone, but it really suited the buyers,” Mr Sowersby said.

The home overlooks RSEA Park, the home ground of the St Kilda Football Club, which Weller played 89 games for during his stint during a nine-year, three-club AFL career.

“It’s got a modern look and a position right on the oval, which was attractive for buyers – means you never have to mow the grass yourself,” Mr Sowersby said.

He said Weller had recently bought a new property in his home state of Tasmania, where the ex-footballer now lived and worked as a coach for the Penguin Two Blues Football Club.

There’s even a bar on the ground floor.

Weller previously told Property Confidential he was disappointed that he never got the chance to live in the slick Moorabbin home, which features a bar on the ground floor.

“I always had intentions to move in but it just never worked out,” Weller said.

“At one point I was considering moving in there with a few of the other St Kilda players – we would have never been late to training.”

Weller is also selling his apartment at 204/427 Hampton Street.

“There’s so many good cafes and parks around, too. I really regret not being able to get some use out of it.”

Weller has also listed his two-bedroom Hampton apartment at 204/427 Hampton Street with a $590,000-$625,000 price guide.

The property scheduled for auction March 13.
