Man from Snowy River producer Geoff Burrowes lists ‘breathtaking’ Merrijig estate
The Merrijig hideaway of a producer behind The Man from Snowy River has galloped onto the market.
The 222.577ha rural estate in the midst of the Victorian high country at 215 Powers Rd belongs to Kerri and Geoff Burrowes who was a producer on the iconic Australian movie, and also appeared as a rider in the 1982 film.
Burrowes went on to write, produce and direct its sequel: Return to Snowy River (The Man from Snowy River II).

Additional titles he was involved with include the TV mini series Anzacs, films Cool Change, Running from the Guns and Backstage.
Known as Mt Skene Estate, the charming homestead showcases impressive views to nearby Mt Buller and Mt Timbertop as well as an ever changing garden landscape in its immediate surrounds.
Abercromby’s Jock Langley has the property for sale with a nod to the property’s “iconic screen provenance” in its listing and a video depicting landscapes reminiscent of the terrain in the film starring Kirk Douglas, Sigrid Thornton and Tom Burlinson.
“It really is breathtaking,” Mr Langley said.
Cattle, horses and peacocks feature in a short film about the property, and are also current residents.
Mr Langley said that since taking ownership of the home in the 1990s the Burrowes had made it their own, transforming what had been a largely blank canvas previously owned by a grazier.
“They have created something amazing,” Mr Langley said.
“Both of them are really creative people and what they have established is unique. It doesn’t matter what season you are there, it looks magnificent.”
Surrounded by mature and well-tended gardens, the five-bedroom main house is covered with climbing greenery and zoned for entertaining guests.
The central hub includes a family room and lounge room, both with fireplaces, that are arranged to either side of the home’s open-plan kitchen and dining area.
A palatial main bedroom with an ensuite and walk-in robe has a private stretch of veranda to itself is set opposite an eye-catching staircase with a study and sitting room at the top.
Four bedrooms are aligned in a guest or children’s wing near the entry.
The property also houses a cottage, cool room and water supplies from both a dam and bore.
A shearing shed, tack room, horse boxes and cattle yards add to its rural appeal.
Mr Langley said while different groups would see value in different aspects of the property, they were suggesting a price of $12,500-$15,000 an acre to most interested parties.
He is expecting to hear from lifestyle change seekers, budding pastoralists and more established farm operators by the close of expressions of interest at 5pm on December 14.
