Lucasfilm Removes Gina Carano From ‘The Mandalorian’
Gina Carano is no longer employed by Lucasfilm.
Lucasfilm has removed Gina Carano from The Mandalorian and future Star Wars projects due to insensitive social media posts.
Over the past year, many Star Wars fans have voiced their concerns over Gina Carano’s controversial social media presence and have called for her removal from The Mandalorian. On Wednesday, #FireGinaCarano trended on Twitter after The Mandalorian star shared a post on her Instagram Story comparing Republicans today to being Jewish during Nazi Germany. Lucasfilm has now confirmed Carano will no longer be a part of the Star Wars franchise as Cara Dune.
It’s unclear following the news whether Cara Dune will be recast or written off The Mandalorian and any future Star Wars projects Gina Carano might’ve been involved with. Some speculated Carano might be a part of the Rangers of the New Republic spin-off series, but it’s now clear that the MMA star turned actress will not have a role regardless. Here’s what a Lucasfilm spokesman had to say about the matter:
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
