Lonely Hackers Club Badge and the Search for the Official Meetup
It’s officially two weeks out from Hacker Summer Camp, the world’s biggest and baddest hacker con, the hardware meetup of all hardware meetups.
DEF CON 30.
There are so many things to do, like participating in competitions, attending talks, and hanging out in the many different villages, but possibly one of the most popular aspects is #badgelife. Over the last few weeks, badges for DEF CON 30 are popping up all over Tindie. One that immediately caught my attention was the Lonely Hackers Club Badge.
For the uninitiated, the Lonely Hackers Club is a community to help introduce “n00bs” to the hacker community at large, both online and in person. They’ve put together an incredibly thorough guide for first-timers at DEF CON, and they host an IRL meetup at DEF CON. DEF CON 30 is no different, but the key to finding that meetup is hidden inside this year’s Lonely Hackers Club badge.
The badge itself is a wonderful tribute to floppy discs of old, with three surface-mount LEDs, three resistors, a coin cell battery holder, and four front-facing SAO connectors. The badge is pre-assembled and thoughtfully includes two CR2032s and a lanyard. Just a heads up though, these are for local pickup only in Las Vegas at DEF CON 30.
