Indoor/Outdoor Temperature Display Kit
Inexpensive thermometers are readily available which tell the indoor temperature, as are devices that show how hot or cold it is outside. It only seems logical to have a device that is capable of displaying both. Cheerful Electronic’s Indoor & Outdoor Thermometer Kit does just that, switching between indoor and outdoor readings on its central seven-segment current temperature display.
Along with the current temperature, the device has smaller displays that show off the maximum and minimum temperature readings, as well as a bar graph that acts like an old-school mercury thermometer. The device can display in Celsius or Fahrenheit, and handles temperatures from -50ºC to +60ºC (-58ºF to 140ºF). It can be set to alternate between indoor and outdoor readings, or to show either the indoor or outdoor temperature only.
The kit comes with the base and display PCB, as well as all components needed to complete the build. It also includes a 1m external temperature probe for outdoor readings, and rubber feet to keep it from sliding around on your desk or other surface. The build looks quite elegant in the video below, and is “a blast to put together,” according to the device’s sole review as of this writing.
