Hotels in Belize to Stay on Points

We spent 8 days in Belize and were able to save money on accommodations by using hotel points.

At that time there are only two hotels in Belize where you can use points to pay for your hotel stay. Now, there are so more places you can stay for free with points and miles! Almost every hotel chain has a hotel in Belize. You can use Best Western, Hilton, Hyatt, Mariott, Radisson, and Wyndham points for free stays in Belize.

Here are the hotels in Belize where you can stay on points.

We stayed at the Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina on our last night in Belize.

Rooms at the Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina start at $125 or 45,000 points (standard room) or 67,500 points (premium room) per night.

When we stayed it was 38,000 points for a standard room and 57,000 points for a premium room. After Radisson changed their award chart this June, the cost to use points increased. But the cash priced is less.

If you have Gold or Platinum (formerly Concierge) status with Radisson Rewards (formerly Club Carlson) you’ll get:

  • Free room upgrade
  • Early check-in
  • Welcome gift
  • Free breakfast (Platinum members)
  • Free bottled water daily
  • Late check-out
  • 15% to 20% discount on food and beverages

You can earn 100,000 points from the Radisson Rewards Premier card.

Pro-tip: The Radisson card charges a 3% foreign transaction fee. So you shouldn’t use it outside the United States, like in Belize.?  Instead use a card that doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees like the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or Platinum Card from American Express.

Why You Shouldn’t Use Hotel Points to Stay in Belize

Using points to save money on hotels is a good thing. But in Belize, you should not use hotel points for your entire trip. Because depending on where you stay using points in Belize can cost you more money. It’s important to know when to use points and when to pay cash. Instead, you should only use points for your first or last night.

Both the Radisson Fort George and Marina and the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza are in Belize City. Being in the city center is great for some cities like New York, London, or Paris. But it’s not where you want to be in Belize.

When you travel to Belize you either want to stay on the beach or in the jungle. Because that’s where all the attractions and things to do are located.

You can find inexpensive homes and other types of accommodations on the beach or jungle. We stayed at three places in Belize: a cute house on the river in San Ignacio, a beachfront hotel on Ambergris Caye, and at the Radisson Fort George on our last night.

If you stay in Belize City you’ll spend more money on transportation (rental car and gas, bus, ferry or plane) to get back and forth from the beach or jungle to your hotel.

You should only stay in the city if you arrive late or have an early flight home.

Conclusion

Vacations can be expensive. That’s why using hotel points can save you money when you travel. There are eight hotels in Belize to stay on points. With so many options to choose from you can stay in the city, jungle, or on the beach.

You should be strategic about where you use your points to stay in Belize. Because it can be cheaper to pay cash than use points.

But you should you use your airline miles and fly for free, especially if you have the Southwest Companion Pass.

Stay tuned for my review of the Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina.

Chase Sapphire Preferred

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the best card for beginning travel hackers. It is the first card you should get to start traveling for free because the welcome offer is 100,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 2X points on travel and dining, no foreign transaction fees, and transferring points to 13 airline and hotel partners like Hyatt, United, and Southwest.

Chase Freedom Unlimited

The Chase Freedom Unlimited is one of my favorite cards for earning cash back card and travel rewards. It offers a welcome offer of $200 after spending $500 in the first three months.

My favorite perks about this card are earning 5% cash back at grocery stores the first 12 months (up to $12k), unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases and no annual fee. When paired with cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve, you can use your points to travel for free.
