As the world’s heavy hitters take to the courts in Melbourne, tennis court properties are becoming increasingly hard to find despite figures showing the appetite for the sport is strong.
Ray White’s economic research team has revealed the suburbs across the country with the most tennis court homes for sale.
While the home of the Australian Open — Melbourne — has the highest number of residential tennis courts, Wahroonga on Sydney’s north shore has had the most listings of homes containing tennis courts in the past two years.

It was followed by Frankston South, Mount Eliza, and Balwyn, in Melbourne.
In Brisbane, Bellbowrie, The Gap, and Taringa, have had the highest number of tennis court property sales, while the most tennis court home listings in Adelaide were in Unley Park, Netherby, and Stirling.
Ray White’s chief economist Nerida Conisbee said installing a private tennis court had become more challenging.
“Block sizes continue to shrink, even in suburbs traditionally known for private courts,” Ms Conisbee said.
“Many existing tennis courts have been replaced with new housing developments to meet growing residential demand.”
Ms Conisbee said location was crucial, with affluent suburbs with larger blocks typically featuring the most tennis courts.
An Australian Sports Commission report into sports participation reveals 1.25m people actively played tennis in 2024, showing its appeal as a recreational sport.
“As participation grows, properties with tennis courts may become increasingly desirable among tennis enthusiasts, even as they become harder to find in urban areas,” Ms Conisbee said.
But she said tennis court properties might not command the same market premium as amenities like swimming pools.
A Brisbane riverfront mansion with a tennis court sold for close to $20m last month.
The five-bedroom, six-bathroom home at 98 Virginia Ave, Hawthorne attracted a premium price, but its riverfont position and inner-city location would have also added to its value.
