Gold Coast real estate agent reveals hair-raising career change
Former Gold Coast real estate agent Georgia Elson has gone from selling high-end homes to tattooing hair on to well-heeled heads.
In what is arguably one of the most unusual career changes, the former Savills residential sales executive has marketed homes for some of the Gold Coast’s richest and most recognisable faces, including motorsports legend Dick Johnson and retired lawyer and development consultant Larry Lazarides.

But 12 months ago, after some prompting from her “gay friend of 34 years”, Ms Elson opened her own business – Hair Ink SMP Gold Coast.
“My gay friend, he was bald and he rang me one day and asked me if I had been watching Married At First Sight,” she said.
“I said, of course not, I don’t watch that rubbish, but he talked about Mike Gunner (MAFS star) and his hair tattoo and said I would be good at that.
“When I got off the phone I thought, you know what, he is right, and I haven’t looked back.”

Ms Elson, who operated a mobile beauty and massage business before entering real estate, said she then “just ran with it”, heading to the US to learn more about SMP, or scalp micro pigmentation.
“I kept my (real estate) licence and when someone calls me and wants me to sell their property, I can still do it but I am not actively chasing it,” she said.
“I am busy enough with this … I have done probably 80 heads.”
One of her current clients is the man once known as Lord Humungus, one of the characters in the 1981 hit Mad Max 2.
Ms Elson said while a lot of her clients were men, she was also seeing more and more women who were struggling with hair loss due to stress.
“Real estate was stressful, but this, this is just so rewarding,” she said, adding she still “occasionally dip my toe” back into property.
