Giants vs. Panthers final score, results: Carolina walks off 2024 Munich Game in overtime after Chuba Hubbard’s strong day

For just the second time ever, an NFL game was played in Germany on Sunday.

Wrapping up the league’s 2024 five-game international series, the Giants and Panthers’ Week 10 meeting took place in Munich, Germany, the first time since 2022 that a pair of NFL teams played in the city. Despite a late-game comeback effort from New York, it was the Panthers that came out on top, 20-17, using a walk-off field goal in overtime from Eddy Pineiro to claim the international victory.

Just days removed from earning a contract extension from the team, running back Chuba Hubbard was the top performer for Carolina’s offense on Sunday. Hubbard, who finished the game with 153 rushing yards and a touchdown, helped the Panthers build an advantage while their defense shut out the Giants in the opening two quarters.

However, Daniel Jones and rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. helped the Giants orchestrate a comeback effort, and with just five seconds remaining in regulation, Graham Gano connected on a 42-yard field goal to tie the matchup in Germany.

Overtime didn’t go as the Giants may have hoped, though. They got the ball first, but on the very first play of the extra period, Tracy fumbled the ball away. The takeaway set up perfect field position for a field goal from Pineiro, who officially gave Carolina its second straight win β€” the first time Bryce Young has had a win streak in his young NFL career.

Young finished 15-for-25 with 126 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions on Sunday. He didn’t have to do much heavy lifting with Hubbard and the Panthers’ defense playing well, but Carolina’s recent success could also surely help the young quarterback’s confidence keep growing.

On the other hand, Jones completed 22 of his 37 passes for 190 yards, no passing touchdowns and two interceptions. Carolina got the best of him on multiple occasions to force turnovers, and especially in the first half, things got ugly for Jones and the Giants’ offense.

Carolina’s win in Munich improved the team to 3-7 this season, and while the Panthers likely won’t be competing for a playoff spot in 2024, this is another much-needed positive result for a franchise that’s struggled over the past two seasons. The Giants, meanwhile, will leave Germany at just 2-8 and facing major questions about the lack of success from Jones and their offense.

Giants vs. Panthers live updates, results, highlights from 2024 NFL Germany game

(All times ET)

Final: Panthers 20, Giants 17

12:48 p.m. FIELD GOAL β€” That’ll do it. Pineiro connects on his field goal from 36 yards out to win the Munich game for the Panthers, who have now won two straight games. The Giants, meanwhile, came back in the fourth quarter just for a massive overtime blunder to end their hopes for a victory.

12:44 p.m. β€” New York got the ball first in overtime, but they’ve already given it away in a brutal turn of events. Tracy fumbles, and because the Giants didn’t score on their first drive of overtime, the Panthers can win it with just a field goal.

12:39 p.m. β€” The Giants and Panthers are set to play an extra frame of football in Germany.

Panthers 17, Giants 17

12:35 p.m. FIELD GOAL β€” After the Giants moved down the field relatively easily, it all came down to a field goal to tie it from Gano. He knocks it through from 42 yards out, and with just five seconds left, this Munich matchup looks destined for overtime.

12:32 p.m. β€” Jones nearly had a huge 41-yard play to Nabers, but the pass falls incomplete. Instead, the quarterback is taking quick completions to various receivers to push New York down the field and get in field goal range.

12:28 p.m. β€” At the two-minute warning, the Giants are at their own 34-yard line. They have no timeouts and either need a field goal to tie, or a touchdown to take the lead.

12:25 p.m. β€” The Giants will get one last chance to score. This time around, Young’s pass on 3rd & 10 falls incomplete, and the Panthers punt with just over two minutes remaining.

12:24 p.m. β€” Young finds Xavier Legette on 3rd & 8 to keep Carolina’s drive alive and allow its offense to continue running down the clock.

12:19 p.m. β€” It’s another missed opportunity for the Giants, as they punt the ball away once again. There are under four minutes remaining, and the Panthers will get the ball back still with the lead.

12:16 p.m. β€”  Carolina goes three-and-out, giving New York another shot at tying the game or taking the lead.

12:13 p.m. β€” Another critical mistake by the Giants offense. Right after getting a huge break with the turnover, Jones is picked off to give the ball right back to the Panthers.

12:11 p.m. β€” Now in the red zone after the Panthers’ turnover, New York gets two gains from Johnson and Tracy. A field goal would tie it for the Giants, and a touchdown would give them the lead.

12:09 p.m. β€” Hubbard, who was having a career performance with 138 rushing yards, fumbles in a big turn of events. The Giants jump on the free football, and Hubbard appeared to be injured for a moment, but walked to the sidelines after.

Panthers 17, Giants 14

12:04 p.m. TOUCHDOWN β€” After a 13-play, 96-yard drive, Jones runs the ball into the end zone himself for the score. The Giants have life in Munich, still with a chance of coming back for a win.

12:00 p.m. β€” Nabers is back, and the Giants are inside the Panthers’ five-yard line. New York is threatening to make this a one-score game again.

11:59 a.m. β€” Nabers is being evaluated for a concussion in the blue medical tent. Meanwhile, the Giants are picking up some more yards on the ground behind Tracy.

11:56 a.m. β€” Jones is finding some momentum now, first completing a 23-yard pass to Robinson, then hitting Malik Nabers for 19 yards. However, Nabers stays on the field after being tackled and is heading to the sidelines with a potential injury.

11:54 a.m. β€” On 3rd & 9, Jones finds his rookie tight end, Theo Johnson, to pick up a first down.

End of third quarter: Panthers 17, Giants 7

11:46 a.m. β€” Each team punts after not finding much offensively, and the Giants will have the ball as the fourth quarter begins.

11:39 a.m. β€” A strong performance from Hubbard so far today: 19 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown.

Panthers 17, Giants 7

11:35 a.m. TOUCHDOWN β€” Hubbard punches it in from a yard out, extending Carolina’s lead.

11:30 a.m. β€” Now, it’s Bryce Young breaking free for a strong run, as he picks up 24 yards by scrambling up the middle of the field.

11:27 a.m. β€” Seeking to match Tracy’s strong day, Hubbard picks up 34 yards by himself over three plays.

Panthers 10, Giants 7

11:21 a.m. TOUCHDOWN β€” The Giants are on the board in Germany, and the score comes on a big play from Tracy. The running back breaks free for a 32-yard dash and makes this a one-score matchup once again.

11:16 a.m. β€” Three consecutive runs from Tracy give New York a first down on its first drive of the third quarter.

11:11 a.m. β€” The Giants will begin the second half with the ball.

11:00 a.m. β€” Jones is 6/14 with 54 passing yards, no touchdowns and an interception at the break, while Young has gone 10/16 with 94 passing yards, a touchdown and no interceptions.

Halftime: Panthers 10, Giants 0

10:56 a.m. β€” Jones takes a knee after the Giants got the ball back briefly, sending this matchup to halftime. It’s just a 10-point lead for the Panthers, but the struggles of New York’s offense are making it seem like a bigger deficit.

10:50 a.m. β€” It’s been a rough outing for Daniel Jones so far. His pass is tipped into the air and picked off, continuing the strong performance from Carolina’s defense. Just as the Giants were entering the red zone, they turn the ball over.

10:45 a.m. β€” As the two minute warning hits, the Giants are in Carolina territory still looking to get on the board. Tyrone Tracy Jr. picked up 19 yards on the ground to move the chains, and he’s up to 43 on the day.

10:38 a.m. β€” Carolina punts with just over five minutes remaining in the first half.

10:33 a.m. β€” The offensive woes continue for New York, and it punts once again. On 3rd & 1, the Giants tried a flea flicker, but the entire play got blown up by the Panthers’ defense as Jones went down.

10:25 a.m. β€” The Panthers punt after going three-and-out. On the punt, there’s offsetting penalties though, as Carolina gets called for unnecessary roughness and New York is flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

10:22 a.m. β€” Panthers running back Miles Sanders was carted off the field with an injury, and the team has ruled him doubtful to return with a foot/ankle injury.

10:16 a.m. β€” New York finally got the ball moving to begin the second frame, but its drive ends with a missed 43-yard field goal from Graham Gano. The Giants remain scoreless.

10:13 a.m. β€” A fun moment in Munich: referee Shawn Hochuli announced a penalty in German.

Panthers 10, Giants 0

10:07 a.m. FIELD GOAL β€” Just as the second quarter begins, Eddy Pineiro connects on a 53-yard field goal to make it 10-0 Carolina.

End of first quarter: Panthers 7, Giants 0

10:04 a.m. β€” A nice snag by Panthers receiver Jalen Coker, who’s up to three catches for 41 yards so far:

10:01 a.m. β€” Carolina’s offense continues to move the ball well thanks to Hubbard, who picks up another 15 yards on the ground. Hubbard already has 83 rushing yards on nine carries.

9:55 a.m. β€” Once again, New York can’t get much going offensively. Jones’ pass to Wan’Dale Robinson on third down is incomplete, and the quarterback has started just 1-for-5 as the Giants punt.

Panthers 7, Giants 0

9:48 a.m. TOUCHDOWN β€” The Panthers get on the board first in Munich, as on 3rd & Goal, Young finds an open Ja’Tavion Sanders in the end zone.

9:47 a.m. β€” Carolina is driving deep into Giants territory after some big runs by running back Chuba Hubbard.

9:40 a.m. β€” The Giants’ offense doesn’t find much momentum on its opening drive, and New York will punt.

9:38 a.m. β€” An incredible look at the pregame scene in Munich:

9:36 a.m. β€” Brian Burns gets some quick revenge against his former Carolina squad, sacking Young. The Panthers go three-and-out on their opening drive.

9:35 a.m. β€” This matchup is under way, and the Panthers’ offense starts with the ball.

9:30 a.m. β€” The Giants and Panthers are about to kick off from Munich, wrapping up the NFL’s 2024 International Series.

9:22 a.m. β€” A cool pregame moment for the Giants’ Jakob Johnson:

9:20 a.m. β€” Bryce Young, who’s been the Panthers’ QB1 once again lately, getting set for this matchup in Germany:

9:15 a.m. β€” Almost game time in Munich. Here are the inactives for the Giants and Panthers this morning, including New York’s Darius Slayton and Carolina’s Jonathon Brooks:
