A business luminary who headed Australia’s biggest booze company and served on the board for Cricket Australia and North Melbourne Football Club is selling his Brighton showstopper.

Trevor O’Hoy, who spent 33 years as an executive at Foster’s Group (later Carlton & United Breweries) is selling the three-bedroom Golden Mile address he owns with wife Jenny at 3/23 St Ninians Rd.

Mr O’Hoy, who was chief executive when he departed in 2008, spent time after he left as a non-executive director with North Melbourne Football Club, Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria.
He also worked for The Maggie Beer Product Company, Stone and Wood Brewing Company, the RACV, Redcape Property Fund and Swisse Wellness Group.

The corporate high-flyer still chairs the Ponting Foundation, Ricky and Rianna Ponting’s cancer charity, and the former Australian cricket captain is among the famous faces who have visited the house-sized Brighton apartment.

The home, one of five at No. 23 St Ninians Rd, is expected to pull $5.75m-$6.25m. It features polished travertine stone floors, a private gas-heated pool, multiple living spaces and a mix of Gaggenau, Liebherr and Qasair appliances.

With “hospitality in my blood” Mr O’Hoy said the home was great for entertaining, but the couple’s life at the apartment has centred around its views.

“Wednesday is ‘sailing day’ in Brighton, and you get this flotilla of boats going past and a couple of times you have felt they are in your backyard,” Mr O’Hoy said.

“And it was great pre-Covid as we could be away for three months of the year, and enjoy Brighton for nine months of the year, with access to the walking trails and the bike trails.”

Outdoor living areas embrace the property’s coastal lifestyle.

Mr O’Hoy added that the proximity to the CBD and airports had also suited corporate life.

With excellent neighbours in the building and the pair having fallen in love with the location the O’Hoys are selling to “move down the road”.

CoreLogic records show the pair paid $3.6m for the home in 2013.

Kay & Burton Bayside’s Melissa Grinter is handling the sale and said with its Golden Mile address and high-end fixtures and fittings including a marble encased bath, the home had been “really sought after”.

Travertine tiled floors hint at the sophisticated home’s high-end finishes.

“These homes are so rare, and the majority of prospective buyers are Brighton locals — many of them high-profile business owners or individuals,” Ms Grinter said.

Expressions of interest for 3/23 St Ninians Rd are due by 4pm May 10.
