Edgar Wright’s ‘The Running Man’ Adds Karl Glusman
EXCLUSIVE: Paramount‘s reboot of The Running Man from director Edgar Wright has added Karl Glusman to the growing cast which includes Glen Powell, Katy O’Brian, and Daniel Ezra.
Wright will also produce with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. The Baby Driver filmmaker co-wrote script with Michael Bacall based on the Stephen King novel that was published under his then pen name of Richard Bachman. There was a 1987 movie made from that which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.
King’s futuristic novel is a chase thriller set in a dystopian America in the year 2025. The story centers on Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in violent reality show called The Running Man in order to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters sent to kill him. George Linder to exec produce.
Glusman’s credits include Focus Features/Regency’s The Bikeriders, Sony/Apple’s Greyhound, A24’s Civil War, Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals, Nic Winding Refn’s Neon Demon, and the upcoming 20th Century Studios action comedy movie Eenie Meanie with Samara Weaving, Steve Zahn and Andy Garcia. His TV credits include FX’s dystopian sci-fi series Devs from Alex Garland.

The Running Man is opening on the Friday before Thanksgiving next year, Nov. 21 and will vie against Universal’s Wicked: Part Two, Angel Studios’ David and a Warner Bros event movie. Paramount and Universal are versing each other this year on the Friday before Thanksgiving respectively with Gladiator II and Wicked: Part One.
