Do you think we will lose libraries or bookstores?

Do you think we will lose libraries at some point in the future? Why or why not? And what about bookstores? Do you think the same will happen to them?

I kind of doubt we’ll loose libraries. There are quite a few things you can do at the library including (but not limited to)…..

  • borrow printed book
  • borrow or download an e-book
  • read or check out printed magazines or newspapers
  • research topics that are of interest to you
  • use their computer (and wifi) to apply for jobs
  • get book recommendations
  • get help with homework
  • join a book club
  • learn about your family history

At your local book store, you can do other things besides purchase books. At my local book store, they have a little coffee shop where you can purchase specialized drinks and coffee. I’ve ordered something to drink from there before, especially if I know I’m going to be in the book store a while and browsing for books to read. The book store is also a great way to meet some new authors (you might be able to do this at the library also).

The library and the bookstores may have evolved over the years to include other things such downloading (or borrowing) e-books for your tablets and e-readers for example, however, I don’t think they will be going away.
