Desmond Brooks bids goodbye to Sheraton Mirage after penthouse sale

The penthouse apartment in the Grand Sheraton Mirage in Main Beach owned by Desmond Brooks has settled for a sum of more than $5 million.
Thirty years after the renowned international architect designed the Gold Coast landmark for Christopher Skase, Mr Brooks will pass the keys of his penthouse to a local Gold Coast family wanting to make the move into Main Beach.
The penthouse is located at 21/135 Seaworld Drive, Main Beach.

Selling agent Lucy Cole of Lucy Cole Prestige said the buyers were wowed by the apartment and its unique uninterupted views to the north of the Coast as soon as they walked in.
“They were attracted to it for the ability to walk straight out onto the beachfront as well the access to the five-star hotel’s facilities,” Ms Cole said.
M Brooks designed the Sheraton Mirage building, among others on the Coast.
“They didn’t want to be in a high rise, they wanted low-rise, which is what this is – a two-storey penthouse apartment,” she said.
“You have uninterrupted views to the north and the reserve on the other side. It really is a special property.
He designed the resort for Christopher Skase.
“The family really believe in the Main Beach area and all that it has to offer.”
While the exact price paid for the apartment could not be revealed because of strict non-discloure rules dictated by the building’s body corporate, Ms Cole said both parties were happy with the deal, which was close to $5.2 million.

He has designed three Las Vegas casinos, some of the most striking towers across Hawai’i as well as Brisbane’s iconic Southbank parklands.

He is also behind some of the Coast’s most enduring structures such as the Grand Sheraton Mirage, Palazzo Versace, Royal Pines Resort and Marriott Surfers Paradise Resort, Gold Coast International Hotel, The Wave and Soul, where the penthouse recently sold for a record price for a Gold Coast apartment at $15.25 million.
The new owners will have access to the resort’s hotel facilities.
He was also the architect of reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes and Mr Skase among other high-profile businessmen.
