Coral Homes founder Paul Sweeney sells Isle of Capri masterpiece for $6.5m
A local couple has paid $6.5 million for the property known as Da Vinci owned by Coral Homes founder Paul Sweeney.
The buyers, who recently sold their own home, fell in love with the Isle of Capri property after their first and only inspection, which led them to make an offer.
Sam Guo of Kollosche, who marketed the property with colleague Brad Coyne, said the house at 93 Gibraltar Ave, had barely been on the market a week, with the sale setting a record on the island for a single block on the waterfront.

Mr Sweeney bought the Isle of Capri block in 2017 for $1.9 million and flattened the existing property to build what he describes as a “modern European home”.
It’s a rather modest depiction of the canal-side abode, which many would say is more akin to a modern European masterpiece.
Despite its clean lines, it is the intricate details that set this property apart from its peers.
Wrought-iron Juliet balconies and Italianate details on the facade are repeated inside where you can also find intricate cornicings, carved door frames, shadowline coffered ceilings, crystal chandeliers and flocked wallpaper.
It also has a cinema room and extravagant master suite with a huge dressing room. At basement level there is large garage with space for a gym and parking for five cars, although your pride and joy can be parked in the showroom on the ground floor where you can admire it from the formal dining room.
Outside beside an alfresco entertaining area is an extra-deep pool with a diving board, water slide and spa, while on the water there is plenty of room to moor a large yacht by the pontoon.
The quality and level of detail in the home comes as no surprise from a man who has been in building his whole life. And because Da Vinci was to be his final masterpiece, he went above and beyond on its design and build.

“It was a bit of labour of love,” Mr Sweeney said.
“I wanted it to be a villa style, but modernised. A villa doesn’t have to look old to have that European feel. You see some houses that are built to a trend of the time but ten years later they look out of place. The European look is classy and romantic, but it doesn’t date,” he said.

It’s not Mr Sweeney’s first foray with the villa style. His touch can still be see on Mr Sweeney is no stranger to the style. The house he sold at 31 Hedges Avenue, Mermaid Beach, in 2007 for $9.9 million was also an Italianate masterpiece that has stood the test of time.
The sale is one of two recently secured by Mr Guo on the Isle of Capri, after he also offloaded 102 Amalfi Drive for $4.85 million before it even hit the open market.
The buyers were a local couple who had been looking in the area for some time when the property became available. They inspected it at 1pm and by 11pm that evening it was under contract.
