Classic Queenslander with magic Hinterland views for sale
This classic Queenslander was once the summer residence of a laconic sea captain who, fed up with city life, transported the historic house on the back of a truck to the secluded Gold Coast Hinterland.
The grand dame has been lovingly restored and styled as an exotic sub-tropical retreat by current owners, interior designer Delappe Russell-Rowe and her husband, Nathan Rowe.
After eight years, the empty-nester couple is downsizing and their unique dual-living property at the base of Mt Tamborine in QLD’s Scenic Rim area is for sale.
The five-bedroom, two-bathroom home on an 0.85ha block at 506 Cedar Creek Rd, Cedar Creek is marketed by Jason Savage, of Stone Real Estate, with offers over $1.8m sought.
Ms Russell-Rowe said she was living in Brisbane and Mr Rowe in Perth when they decided to invest in the idyllic location.
“It was a tree change for us. I’m a city girl, and we actually went to a wedding in the Hinterland area here and fell in love with it,” Ms Russell-Rowe said.
“We started our new lives together here. I knew when I re-married that it had to be different to my previous life.
“It has just been the most magical part of our lives and I am so glad we did it,” she said.

The home dates to the Edwardian era and is more than 100 years old.
Upstairs are four bedrooms, with period features including oak floorboards, ornate fretwork and stained glass windows.
The country-style kitchen and bathroom with claw foot bathtub add charm, while original French doors open out to a huge deck offering panoramic mountain views and cool afternoon breezes.
“I knew I wanted a big deck. It is where everyone gathers and it just has the most magical views over the valley,” Ms Russell-Rowe said.
Inside, a pot belly fireplace in the upstairs lounge beckons during cooler months.
The home’s lower level is a completely self-contained one-bedroom apartment with a separate study and lounge, which the owners operated as guest accommodation known as the Indian Summer Retreat.
Styled as a luxury coastal farmhouse, the apartment was furnished with pieces curated through Ms Russell-Rowe’s homewares and design business, Indian Summer Home, and quickly gained rave reviews from honeymooning couples and others just seeking time away from the city.
Outside, the pool and terrace area is an inviting space to relax with friends and family.
Located about midway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast beaches, the property made an ideal base for visitors to explore Mt Tamborine and surrounds, including Cedar Creek Falls.
