Celebrity jeweller lists family’s gem of a home in Hamilton
CELEBRITY jeweller Margot McKinney and her two sisters have listed the luxurious Hamilton Hill home of their father, the late retailer, John McKinney.
Mr McKinney, whose name is synonymous with diamond rings and pearls after he grew his family’s Toowoomba department store into a jewellery empire, passed away in August last year at the age of 89.
The property at 33a Markwell Street is being marketed by Ray White New Farm’s Matt Lancashire and Pat Goldsworthy, and is scheduled for auction on November 10.
Mr Lancashire said the property had already attracted strong inquiry from New South Wales and Victorian buyers waiting for the borders to open.
“They love the hilltop locations, the fact it’s northeast facing and that it has uninterrupted views,” Mr Lancashire said.
“It’s in one of the area’s most prized locations.”
The elegant, four-bedroom, three-bathroom home sits on an elevated 767 sqm block, boasting sensational views across the river, Gateway Bridge and Hamilton.
Inside, there are multiple living, dining and entertaining spaces, including a formal lounge and dining room.
A private wing of the home hosts the fourth bedroom.
Character features include timber floors, decorative cornices, high ceilings and timber shutters.
Outside, there are two private garden courtyards, artificial lawns and manicured hedges.
The location is hard to beat given it falls in the Ascot State School catchment and is within walking distance of Racecourse Road.

The property is adjacent to the home of pub baron James Power and his wife, Jennifer, who are not selling, despite an incorrect report in Property Confidential on Friday.
The record for a home sale in Hamilton was set earlier this year when 55 Markwell Street sold for $12 million.
The trophy home sold to Graeme Scott and Toni McNicoll in an offmarket deal.
Margot McKinney followed in her father’s footsteps and has her own jewellery label.
Her creations have been worn by identities including model Dita Von Teese, actor Rebecca Gibney and former politician Julie Bishop.
