Best 10 Books in…..Horror

I’ve comprised a list of the 10 best books from the horror genre. This list is in no particular order and this list is only my opinions based on what books I’ve read in the past. Enjoy!

I came to read this book back in 2018 and I remember it kept me pretty hooked throughout the entire story. The story follows two young boys when they initially think the circus has come to town during the month of October, however, they soon realize this isn’t your average circus. They find out that it’s a lot stranger and more of a nightmare then they could have imagined.

I read this in e-book form while traveling on vacation that year. A doctor moves to his family into a new house in Maine only to find that the woods behind their house is hiding something worse than death…

The Locke & Key series, beginning with “Welcome to Lovecraft” that you see here, is a comic book series that got me interested in literature by author Joe Hill. The series follows the Locke children (Tyler, Kinsey and Bode) as they move into a new home in Lovecraft, Massachusetts, after the death of their father. They soon realize that their new home comes with different keys that unlock different doors, which allows them to do different things……things you wouldn’t normally be able to do outside of Keyhouse.

Sam is an artist looking for a remote place to stay where she can concentrate on her work for an upcoming gallery. However, she comes to realize she’s not alone at the cabin on the edge of the lake when she suspects the mysterious man she keeps seeing is responsible for a string of disappearances from a nearby hiking trail.

I really enjoyed this one. It’s a great book to read in the fall, when the weather is colder (even if you don’t read it around Halloween). And there is a movie based on this book where the main character is played by Daniel Radcliffe. He plays an up and coming lawyer who goes out to the estate of a woman who just passed away but he soon realizes that her house may not be entirely empty.

This is a really good book, however, this isn’t your typical ghost story. Eliza Caine takes up a position as a governess for two small children but soon realizes things aren’t all they seem at the estate. For one thing, she is greeted only by the two children when she first arrives…….no adults. And strange things soon begin to happen.

This is another short read but a goodie. Ford and Neuland are paranormal mercenaries, one living and one dead, realize that that the monsters aren’t necessarily the ones right in front of them….

This book begins the Wardstone Chronicles by Joseph Delaney. The series follows Thomas Ward as he is apprenticed to the local spook. The spook is responsible for getting rid of all manner of things that go bump in the night.

This book begins a trilogy. It follows a character known as Louisa Ditton. She leaves a harsh school to find work as a maid at a boarding house. But she soon learns that things aren’t always what they seem working for Mr. Morningside.

This is a pretty short read but a good one. As a matter of fact, this is a good one to read around Halloween. A group of friends come together to celebrate a wedding in this abandoned house that they soon realize isn’t exactly abandoned…..
