A tourism businesswoman is set to make a small fortune, putting a two-storey beachside penthouse she bought just 16 months ago up for auction in one of Queensland’s hottest markets.

Simone Smith, wife of ex-AFL footballer and Breakfree founder Tony Smith, has put her beachside penthouse up for auction just 16 months after buying it for $5.75m.

The listing of 4/142 Marine Parade, Miami, comes as the Gold Coast continues to see its hottest demand on record, with homes in the beachside suburb selling within 16 days of hitting the market (median days on market) and prices rising 41.3 per cent in the last five years, according to CoreLogic data.

The last massive sale the Smiths had on the Gold Coast was the $25m offloading of 2 Heron Avenue, Mermaid Beach in 2020 to developer Dean Pask who heads Pask Group, which matched the record at the time set by ex-Billabong boss Scott Perrin’s Albatross Avenue home, Tidemark.

The current penthouse, in Mrs Smith’s name on property records, is a four bedroom, 4.5 bathroom two-storey home across from Miami Beach. The Smiths also have a beachfront double block for sale in Palm Beach, asking $10.3m.

The home covers the top two storeys of the building.

Penthouse listing agents Eoghan Murphy and Michael Kollosche of Kollosche – who sold Ms Smith the property 16 months ago – described it as “the pinnacle of beachfront penthouse perfection” with no expense spared.

“You’ll also relish the chance to entertain in style, with a dedicated rooftop terrace acting as the perfect place to host guests. Along with endless views of the coastline north and south, plus lush hinterland vistas, it features a private pool, bespoke day bed, bathroom and built-in outdoor kitchen,” was how they listed it.

No expense was spared kitting out the property.

The home has keyless entry, state-of-the-art Cbus home automation, an express lift and underfloor heating in bathrooms, with three side-by-side secure car parks, and 8kW solar panels for energy efficiency.

The penthouse is set to go under the hammer at noon on Sunday April 3.
