Ford Ranger Raptor Is Looking Mean, Could Finally Come to the U.S.

- We spied the 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor testing, and it could be the one to finally be sold in the U.S.
- It’s likely to be powered by the twin-turbo V-6 found in the 2021 Bronco, and the Raptor will have the black-out “Ford” grille, knobby all-terrain tires, and adaptive performance dampers.
- We should know more about the Raptor model after the 2022 Ranger debuts by the end of the year or in early 2022.
Ford never brought the current-gen Ranger Raptor to the U.S., which is unfortunate. Now, however, the Ranger is set to get an appealing redesign that will be complete with a high-flying Raptor variant, which we spied here. The current Ranger just added an off-road-focused Tremor package, but the upcoming generation will need a carnivorous Raptor model to crush the competition from Chevrolet, Jeep, and Toyota.
From a leaked photo and earlier spy shots, we can tell that the new Ranger’s look will be centralized around a squared-off front end and C-shaped headlights much like the ones on the redesigned F-150, and it’ll be a welcome upgrade. The Raptor, however, will have the famous “Ford”-scripted blacked-out grille, skid plates, pronounced fenders, side steps, and Raptor-specific black wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich K02 all-terrain rubber. It will likely have adaptive performance dampers, similar to those fitted on the F-150 Raptor and Bronco Warthog, and a coil-spring rear suspension setup, also found on the Raptor and Bronco.
Ford’s twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6, found in the 2021 Bronco off-road SUV, will likely power the new Ranger Raptor. In the Bronco, it produces 310 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The standard truck is expected to keep its turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.
We spied the new Ranger Raptor testing alongside the upcoming Bronco Warthog, which will act as the new off-roader’s desert-slinging Raptor counterpart. We expect the updated Ranger to launch by the end of the year or early next, and let’s hope the Raptor will follow shortly after.
