COYUYOC Drone Synth

In my time I’ve built many a noisy drone synth, often using the ubiquitous 555, but I’m also versed in using a CD40106 popular in the CMOS 4000/Lunetta noise-making communities. Rarely have my drone synths been very aesthetically pleasing, unless you like salvaged cobbled “deadbug” style. However, bug style is taken to an incredible new level with the COYUYOC Drone Synth.

The CoyuyoC is supplied fully assembled and is based around a 555 to make two triangle wave oscillators rigged to excite each other. The control interface is the bug’s wings acting as knobs for the potentiometers. They look delightful to play with! There are switches to turn on and off modulation and a light sensor which again can be switched in as a modulation source. Audio output is via a stereo jack with the left channel carrying the high-frequency oscillator or the VCO and the right channel carrying the low-frequency oscillator or LFO. This means you can use or mix the differing signals after output to input to other synth modules, or just directly as oscillators. Speaking of control there is also a Control Voltage (CV) input allowing you to drive this bug with other items in your synth rig!
