Carl Cox, Richie McNeill: DJ, music promoter list incredible Myrtleford property in Victorian Alpine region

Superstar DJ Carl Cox and leading music promoter Richie McNeill are dropping an impressive collaboration: the country Victorian retreat they built together.
The electronic music veterans have listed the fully furnished Myrtleford property, which has served as a holiday getaway and successful short-term rental, asking for offers above $2m.
Hardware Group chief executive McNeill — who’s renowned for founding juggernaut music festival Stereosonic — told the Herald Sun he and the English-turned-local-DJ snapped up the 2ha property at 38 Buffalo Creek Road as vacant land in 2009 as an “impulse buy”.

He said he had been a regular visitor to the area at the “gateway to the Alpine National Park” before this. His sister and friends lived locally, and he frequented the Mount Hotham and Falls Creek ski fields, as well as Lake Buffalo and its surrounds.
McNeill said Cox one day joined him on a 100km ride around the latter — which “reminded me of Colorado or the Rocky Mountains” — and the rest was history.

“Carl’s mad for motorbikes and I’m a dirt bike fan,” he said.
“We had such a great time (on the ride) we started renting houses up there to go riding on weekends.
“One weekend … there was an auction happening with a barbecue. We thought we’d get some sausages, but we ended up putting a bid on.
“It was the house next door (to 38 Buffalo Creek Road). We didn’t get it over the line, but then we bought the land.”

The pair engaged Armadale-based architects Raidstudio and local builders Arnet & Browning to create a five-bedroom house that paid homage to Myrtleford’s old tobacco sheds, featuring a light grey Colorbond exterior crowned with a cantilevered roof.

The pad sleeps up to 13 people and offers sweeping views from floor-to-ceiling windows, an alfresco deck and a pool.
The sleeping quarters are concentrated in the east wing and living spaces, the west wing. The latter features an open-plan living and dining space with an open fireplace and a Miele-packed kitchen containing two ovens, an induction cooktop, a butler’s pantry, a concrete benchtop and a wooden breakfast bar that matches the handmade dining table.
A four-person sauna is also part of the package.

The sale — which is being handled by Ray White Myrtleford principal Sandra Dondio — includes all furnishings, valued at $40,000.
Toorak-based McNeill said he and Cox, who lived in Frankston South, were reluctantly selling because they didn’t spend as much time at the property as they’d like these days.
“I hope the new owners will let us rent it off them,” he said.
He said they had rented the house to holiday-makers for $700 per night on Sundays to Thursdays, and $2200 for two-night Friday and Saturday stays.
Carl Cox and Eric Powell’s Mobile Disco is set to play the latest season of Piknic Electronik — presented by McNeill’s Hardware Group — at Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Australia Day weekend.
