Newbury: Idyllic home an off-grid escape
Go off the grid at a serene and self-sustaining escape in Newbury, just an hour northwest of Melbourne.
The thoughtful and grand design at 4 Pronk Track occupies an idyllic 15.8ha block on top of Blue Mount.
Belle Property Trentham’s Ceri Spain said the decade-old home was built in line with the vendors’ long-held “vision” of creating the ultimate regional escape for their family.

The four-bedroom property named Westbury is on the market with a $1.495m price tag.
“The family has five children and they had this idea for a completely off-grid development in a country setting and engaged an architect to design it,” Ms Spain said.
“It was always intended to be a weekender where they could go to absolutely switch off.
“True to that philosophy, it has everything you need to live sustainably.”
A large dam, 70,000L of tank water, solar batteries which provide about 4 days’ worth of power, a green house and an aerated wastewater system are some of the property’s environmentally friendly infrastructure.
She said the north-facing “celestial” home featured high-ceilings, soaring spotted gum beams and double-glazed windows to allow for natural light.
“The polished concrete floor becomes part of the passive design, too,” Ms Spain added.
The agent said the build also repurposed natural materials, like hand-sourced stone found on the site that was used to create feature walls and steps.

The living area boasts a modern kitchen and retractable doors which open up to an alfresco entertainment area.
Ms Spain said the property had already received strong interest from buyers eager to keep it as a weekend retreat and families who had considered relocating permanently.
“We are even running some virtual tours for overseas buyers who are captivated by it,” she said.
“It’s a very renowned area in Newbury and there’s so much flora and fauna around. Everyone who sees the property is in awe of the vision and the tranquillity.”
There’s also a woodfire heater, a mud room and a private office primed for working from home.
