Unique home that is both sophisticated and sustainable
A Hills home offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of working life, and provides you the opportunity to live a self-sufficient lifestyle in one of the most picturesque pockets of the Adelaide Hills.
Ros and Margie bought the home at 70 Hogan Rd, Hahndorf in 2018, and say they have loved the every minute of property’s wonderful country lifestyle.
“It’s a unique home, you can get to the Freeway easily and get to Hahndorf easily, and Mount Barker is really accessible, but then we’re really tucked away and private,” Ros says.
“We’re down a track, and when you get to the house you’re away from everybody. We both work from home a lot and from my office I can see distant blue hills – it’s just a really special place. Just off Hogan Rd there’s a path and then you’re in virgin bushland, so we have all of these fantastic walks within about 200m of our home. We’ve got the best of both worlds – it’s country living but we’re in Hahndorf within five minutes and within 20 minutes of the city.”
Set over two levels, the home offers some 454sqm of internal and external living space. It has up to five bedrooms, light-filled open-plan living areas, a cellar, a large alfresco area, a pool and a putting green.
“The previous owners were winemakers and they did a lot of entertaining here, and we’ve really loved using it for that as well,” Ros says.
“We’ve got a fabulous deck, a great swimming pool, and as a family house it’s been great. Our daughter has been able to have quite a few parties here and spring and autumn out there on the deck are lovely. There are so many places here you can spend time with people.
“It’s been a great family home – my daughter and her boyfriend are downstairs and they have their own area down there and get their privacy, and so do we.”
As stunning as the house is, Ros says its surrounds are equally impressive. “When we arrived there was hardly any birdlife here, but since we’ve planted so many native trees you hear them all the time,” Ros says.
“Plus we love growing our own produce and being self-sufficient. It’s a fantastic home and we’re terribly proud of it. It’s just too big for us now and time for us to downsize to something more appropriate for our next stage of life, but we’re hoping to stay in the Hills. We’re sure the next owners will love it just as much as we have. It’s a gorgeous home.”
