Newtown schools zone draws family to renovated home
Homebuyers are making a quick start to the new year, with two contesting a Newtown property in the centre of the suburb’s schools precinct.
A family that’s relocating from interstate has secured the three-bedroom rendered brick house at 30 Aphrasia Street.
Whitford, Newtown agent Heidi Trempel said the property attracted competition, with another local buyer also making an offer.

It sold for $1,833,100.
Ms Trempel said both buyers had been in the market for a home prior to Christmas, but after enjoying a short break were quick on the phone to chase the renovated period home.
“It’s another interstate family coming. — they were looking pre-Christmas for a while, after the break they got down here when they could and have searched lots of homes.
“They’ve got three children and they’re going to be going to local schools so obviously location was going to be key — anywhere where there was families around.”
Ms Trempel said the house had been renovated over a number of years.
“It was extended a few years ago and then had been again modernised further since,” she said.
“I think the main thing about this property is it really did suit downsizers as well as families, which is quite rare, so it was attracting both types of buyers.

“And the big key for a lot of people who initially looked at it was the garaging out the back. There was a double garage, a single garage and another single garage at the front.”
The 743sq m property is walking distance to local schools and the Pakington Street shopping centres.
Featuring leadlight panels, plantation shutters and parquetry floors, the house showcased a modern kitchen with a walk-in pantry, several living areas and a landscaped yard.
The garages enjoy rear-lane access.
Ms Trempel said both buyers had looked at the property prior Christmas, but didn’t make a decision until after the holiday break.
She said January was a traditionally a good selling period because people have more time to look at properties.
