Blairgowrie fibro beach shack’s incredible transformation: Before and afters
A charmed coastal life awaits the buyer of this Blairgowrie beach house that was about five years in the making.
When award-winning builder Scott Hansen, of Hansen Living, snapped up 34 Ridley Street in 2015, it featured overgrown grounds and a gutted 1970s fibro shack in desperate need of some TLC.
He went on to “painstakingly” transform the property into modern four-bedroom house flanked by coastal gardens, which he and wife Kirsten are now set to auction on January 24 with a $1.9-$2.05m price guide.

Mr Hansen — whose company has been creating homes across the Bayside, Port Phillip and Mornington Peninsula regions for two decades — said he “deconstructed, extended and substantially renovated” the original house, retaining its coastal-chic vibe in lime-wash ceilings, timber floors and stone benchtops.
Its highlights include an open-plan living and dining area with a Miele kitchen and a wood-burning Coonara fireplace.
The space opens out to an entertainer’s yard, featuring an alfresco deck, a heated pool, a covered poolside deck fitted with surround sound, an outdoor shower and a fire pit.
Nestled at the back are a media room and the main bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite.
“Entertaining family and friends is second to none with the pool and living area,” Mr Hansen said.
“Or you can sit on the deck with a wine or beer and watch the sunset.”

The next owner wall also be able to listen to “the sound of the ocean” from bed, walk to Blairgowrie Village and the “amazing rockpools” of Bridgewater Bay, and drive to the Melbourne CBD in an hour and 20 minutes.
“It’s a second-to-none coastal lifestyle,” Mr Hansen said.
The popular property had already attracted more than 9200 views on realestate.com.au about a week after hitting the market — almost six times the average visits for a Victorian listing.
RT Edgar Portsea selling agent Clayton Smith said this had translated to dozens of inspections ahead of what promised to be a “firecracker” Australia Day weekend auction.
