Auction brought forward for Vaucluse home with whale views

20 Captain Pipers Road, Vaucluse, has a $6.3m price guide.

Agents selling a stunning Vaucluse home with whale views have brought forward the virtual auction by 10 days rather than negotiate a deal behind closed doors.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home with double garage at 20 Captain Pipers Road, which has a $6.3m price guide, was originally scheduled to go to auction on August 7.

But it’s now set to go under the hammer on Thursday evening, with Ray White Double Bay’s James Ledgerwood and principal Ellott Placks deciding to strike while the iron’s hot.

And they were determined to see the home sell by auction rather than negotiate a deal beforehand.

“There’s strong buyer interest and we and the vendors decided to bring it forward,” says Ledgerwood.

The informal lounge, dining area and kitchen open via bi-fold doors to the outdoors.

The impressive entry.

“The auction gives all buyers an opportunity to engage in the bidding.

“Bringing it forward with a few days notice lets them finalise any due diligence and our sellers the opportunity to have more parties competing for their property.”

The family that purchases this Andre Baroukh-designed home can look forward to views of migrating whales in winter and the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in summer.

“It’s been a great family home, which brings us all together in so many common areas,” the current owner said during a Wentworth Courier private tour recently for this week’s House of the Week.

The master suite features a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite with an adjoining study.

The balcony off the master suite has ocean views where it’s possible to see migrating whales during winter.

Says Ledgerwood: “Exceptionally designed and full of natural light with a well thought out floor plan, this is a sensational opportunity for buyers.”

The owners had bought an old Californian bungalow on the 525 sqm block for $816,000 in 1997, immediately commissioning the bold rebuild with the brief to create “something really interesting”.

“We had a strong relationship with Andre right through the process, with a 7am on-site meeting every day,” the owner remembers.

Plenty of places to relax.

“It started with squares, drawing a box in a box.”

They couldn’t have been happier with the way it’s turned out. Beyond the entry foyer with six-metre ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass on both sides: formal open-plan living and dining are on one side; and, on the other, informal open-plan living areas open via bi-fold doors to a covered outdoor entertainment area, garden and saltwater pool.

There’s a stainless steel kitchen with Ilve appliances.

The entrance hall has six-metre ceilings and floor to ceiling glass on both sides.

The outdoor entertainment area, lawn and saltwater pool.

It’s the upstairs master suite and adjoining study — both with balconies — at the front of the house that have the magnificent ocean view. I couldn’t help but think what a great place this would be to work from, particularly during the current lockdown.

All up, there are four spacious bedrooms and three bathrooms.

There’s also a rumpus room or music room downstairs near the garage. I also loved the Blackbutt timber floors and huge wine cellar.
