Northcote house has all-black facade after slick transformation

No. 12 Hartley Street, Northcote, has hit the market after a total makeover.

The striking black facade of an unconventional family home in Northcote is turning heads for all the right reasons.

The four-bedroom period house at 12 Hartley St is on the market with $2.2m-$2.4m price hopes after a modern makeover.

Jellis Craig Northcote director Sam Rigopoulos said the vendors revived the retro green and red weatherboard into a sophisticated suburban haven.

The spacious living domain leads to an outdoor entertaining space.

Dark and dramatic.

All-black everything.

Fresh family living.

“The owners are builders, so it’s had a total renovation,” Mr Rigopoulos said.

“The last house we sold for them had a very similar theme – it’s their style. You can be bold like that and stuff it up, but they do it really well.

“A lot of people are really taken by (the black exterior), so it’s certainly been a talking point.”

CoreLogic records show the owners purchased the property for $1.5m in 2018.

The living room is almost unrecognisable.

The dated kitchen.

Even the outdoor area now sports a black makeover.

Beyond its dramatic street appeal it offers an equally stylish interior, comprising two bathrooms, an impressive living space and kitchen, plus a studio with additional bedrooms.

Each room features matching dark detailing and black accents.

The sleek update is a far cry from the home’s original timber kitchen and wooden walls, which have all been painted white in the renovation.

The perfect place to entertain.

There was also an alfresco courtyard with a fireplace primed for entertaining in any weather, complete with established leafy garden.

Mr Rigopoulos said the property “ticked all the boxes for family buyers”, being in the zone for Westgarth Primary and Northcote High schools and in proximity to High St, Fairfield Village and Johnson Park.

The home will go to auction June 26.
