Paul Kosky: Music producer sells quirky Japanese-style Balaclava pad
Hit music producer Paul Kosky has sold the Japanese-inspired Balaclava pad he lived at while working with some of the industry’s biggest names.
The Peak Music Australia director listed the inner suburban adobe at 2/33 Gourlay St in February with $1.25-$1.375 million price hopes.
McGrath St Kilda agent Josh Stirling wouldn’t disclose the exact sale price but said the property sold for “close to” the guide.

Mr Kosky signed Killing Heidi and produced their platinum debut album Reflector through his former record label Wah Wah Music.
He is also credited with engineering Crowded House’s album Woodface, worked alongside other famous artists including Rage Against the Machine, Boyz II Men and Kate Ceberano and was nominated for four ARIA awards during his lengthy career.
Earlier this year Mr Kosky told Property Confidential he “wanted to create that hotel-style feel of having a swimming pool outside your bedroom window.”
He said he completely “gutted” the house before reinventing the quirky home, which includes a $60,000 custom-made circular kitchen.
Mr Stirling said the music guru previously owned three properties on the block, selling off two and creating a “little sanctuary” for himself at the third.
“Paul loves Japan and Japanese culture,” Mr Stirling said.

“It’s very much an Asian-style villa resort, your own little sanctuary. You step out from your bedroom to the pool and dive straight in.
“It’s a very interesting property, very unique in its styling and we had to wait for the right buyer to come along.”
He said the new owner was a “young guy” working in the technology field who “loved it so much he wants to buy some of the furnishings”.
