Winter is coming: Five homes perfect for a Game of Thrones binge session
Saturday marks 10 years since cult HBO drama Game of Thrones premiered – and what better way to celebrate this “iron anniversary” than by bingeing the entire show?
All eight seasons of the epic fantasy – which depict a deadly game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros – are now available on streaming service Binge.
And with the weather turning cold in many parts of Australia, the Stark family’s iconic tagline “winter is coming” is eerily fitting, making this weekend perfect for a few hours of escapism into a world of kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and honest men.
With that in mind, why not ogle some properties for sale across the country perfect for your Game of Thrones binge fest?
Tim Foote, from Belle Property Mosman, is selling perhaps one of the only actual castles on the market in Australia at the moment, in Sydney’s desirable Castle Cove.
He said the imposing property is a “magnificent example of perpendicular Gothic architecture.”
“It is incredible. It has been owned by the same entity since 1988. It showcases a lavish sandstone build and takes the name ‘Innisfallen Castle’, or ‘Island of the Field’, from an Irish castle in Killarney [and it gazes] out over the soothing blue waters of Fig Tree Cove,” Mr Foote said.
The price guide for the property is a predicable king’s ransom at more than $32 million.
“I think [the buyer] is probably going to be an Aussie expat returning home who wants to be close to the city and have a property that is quite simply, like no other,” he said.
Here are five impressive homes for sale with Game of Thrones vibes.
1. High and mighty in Castle Cove
The eight-bedroom castle in Castle Cove has echoes of High Garden, the home of the Tyrells in the series.
The heritage-listed building built in 1904, which sits on 8333sqm of lush grounds, inspired the name of the suburb back in the day and would be an ideal place to bunker down. The listing also includes separate accommodation perfect for guests or domestic staff.
2. Battle-worthy Queensland estate
Set in Guanaba, in the gorgeous Gold Coast hinterland, this luxurious property has a sprawling 55-acre estate worth fighting a battle for and a home theatre with episode marathon written all over it.
On the market for $21.5 million, Rivermead Estate features a spectacular six-bedroom plantation-style homestead, a three-bedroom pool and guesthouse, perfectly manicured lawns, a lake, grazing fields and even a macadamia tree plantation.
3. Drink and binge in style
With a cellar to make any Westeros lord proud, this waterfront estate, in Sydney’s coveted Palm Beach is on the market for $14.95 million.
The cellar has enough room for all the Arbor gold and red, sweet red from the Reach, Dornish red and Northern wine the likes of Tyrion Lannister could ever want, as well as a sweet movie room.
4. Escape to The North… Shore
Hour after hour of Game of Thrones viewing demands the comfiest of lounge rooms and that’s exactly what you get in this impressive property in Killara, on Sydney’s North Shore.
The fancy cinema room is just one jaw-dropping feature of the triple-storey stunner which has Pittwater views.
5. Sink into the couch in Sovereign Islands
For a dark and moody show, you need a cinema room with similarly shadowy tones, like this one.
On the market for $5.5 million, this property in the exclusive community of Sovereign Islands, north of the Gold Coast, has six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a pool and 20 meters of water frontage.
