Paul Kosky: Hit music producer selling quirky Balaclava pad

Hit record producer Paul Kosky is hoping his creative Balaclava house will strike a chord with buyers.

The Peak Music Australia director has $1.25-$1.375m price hopes for his city base at 2/33 Gourlay Street, which he renovated with colourful creative flair.

Mr Kosky signed Killing Heidi and produced their platinum debut album Reflector through his former record label Wah Wah Music.

He originally signed Killing Heidi.

He also engineered Crowded House album Woodface and worked alongside other famous artists including Rage Against the Machine, Boyz II Men and Kate Ceberano.

He was nominated for four ARIA awards during his lengthy career, including Australian Producer of the Year and Best Music Video Director.

The music mastermind said he completely “gutted” the house before adding out-of-the-ordinary features including a $60,000 custom-made circular kitchen.

A circular custom-made kitchen is like nothing else.

There’s plenty of colour inside the property.

“Every single cupboard and drawer has been steamed and heat-treated to be curved,” Mr

Kosky said.

“There’s also a pool in the front garden because I didn’t want to waste that space … I also wanted to create that hotel-style feel of having a swimming pool outside your bedroom window.”

Japanese gardens were inspired by his travels overseas, while artificial grass installed on garden fences added another pop of colour.

A pool surrounded by Japanese gardens is at the front of the house.

Mr Kosky said he’d run multiple businesses from the property, leaving it perfectly set up for somebody who wanted a professional work environment at home.

The producer previously owned and renovated all three properties on the block, carving off two investments in 2014 and 2016 while keeping the “biggest and best” for himself.

He said it was time to sell his home of 17 years after recently making a “tree and sea change” near the Mornington Peninsula.

There are multiple easy-care outdoor areas.

A large loft area acts as another bedroom.

McGrath St Kilda director Josh Stirling said the property had already caught the attention of buyers, reeling in more than 7000 online views in the first few days of the campaign.

“It’s not your run-of-the-mill home but it’s good to see something a bit more courageous and unique,” Mr Stirling said.

“But beyond the styling there’s really strong bones and character to the house and it doesn’t waste an inch of space.”

He expected young couples and families to raise their hand at auction, scheduled for February 20.
