IESA and ELCIA Partner to Boost India’s Sensor Products Creations in India

Focus on Innovation, Product Development Manufacturing

National, 5TH  December 2024: In a significant move to strengthen India’s sensor products development and manufacturing in India.  Electronics City Industries Association (ELCIA) and India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA), the premier industry body representing stakeholders in India’s electronics and semiconductor sectors, have signed an MoU on a partnership that aims to foster India’s ambition to become a global leader in ESDM.

IESA’s commitment to fostering innovation, advancing manufacturing capabilities, and promoting technology development in India is reinforced by its collaboration with ELCIA. The partnership focuses on establishing a Centre of Excellence (ECoE) which is dedicated to sensor technologies, addressing India’s growing demand for sensor modules and working toward reducing the country’s reliance on sensor imports. The sensor module market in India stands at around Rs 20,000 Crore and is expected to grow to Rs 31000Cr by 2027.

This strategic partnership aims to position India as a global leader in sensor manufacturing by leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as analog and digital sensors using semiconductors, Micro-electromechanical Systems (MEMS), Nano-electromechanical Systems( NEMS), IR, UV, Laser, and more. MEMS and NEMS technologies, which integrate mechanical and electronic components are particularly crucial for industrial sensors. The immediate focus for the ECoE-Sensors will be on industrial sensors, with plans to eventually expand into other verticals.

Ashok Chandak, President, IESA, commented, “This partnership with ELCIA is a critical step toward bolstering India’s ambition to be a Product Nation. Sensors are needed in myriad applications and Focusing on sensor design, manufacturing and Applications will reduce reliance on imports and contribute to the growth of India’s semiconductor and electronics sectors.

Sriram Kumar V, President, ELCIA, remarked, “ ELCIA has embarked on an ambitious journey, to create a wholesome ecosystem that maps industry to academia, to reduce dependence on imports of Sensors, which is now more than 90%. We heartily welcome IESA to be an integral part of the E-CoE-S, where collaboration is the key, fuelled by passion and determination to support the Indian industry.

Dr. V Veerappan, Chairman, of IESA, said, “This collaboration plays an important role in India’s sensor manufacturing sector. By combining our strengths, we aim to build a robust ecosystem that will drive growth, create jobs, and promote research and development in the sensor domain. Our ultimate goal is to make India a hub for sensor manufacturing and innovation.

Both IESA and ELCIA initiatives aim to promote and create a self-reliant future for India’s electronics and sensor industry. Together, they aim to transform India into a global player in sensor technology, catering to both domestic and international markets.
