‘Agatha All Along’ Showrunner Confirms Scrapped Plans For Hulkling Appearance Alongside Wiccan

Hulkling was almost in Agatha All Along! Showrunner Jac Schaeffer reveals why Wiccan’s most iconic love interest was scrapped from the hit series.

Ever since Joe Locke was all but confirmed to be cast as Wiccan in Agatha All Along, Marvel fans have been counting down the days until news drops about Hulkling joining the MCU. The pair is one of the most famous gay couples in all of comics. In fact, next year marks the 20th anniversary of the duo’s relationship hitting the pages of Young Avengers all the way back in 2005.

Many assumed they’d have to wait for Marvel to get their long-rumored Young Avengers project off the ground before the two ever met in the MCU, let alone how long it would take for the two of them to officially tie the knot. However, it seems there were originally plans for the duo to meet much sooner than anyone expected, with Agatha All Along showrunner Jac Schaeffer revealing her scrapped plans to make Hulkling and Wiccan a couple.

Was Hulkling Planned For Agatha All Along?

Jac Schaeffer recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about Agatha All Along to celebrate the series’ recent finale. When speaking about Marvel’s guiding hand when developing the series, the showrunner revealed that she originally wanted Hulkling to appear as Wiccan’s boyfriend in the show. However, due to the larger constraints of the MCU, the early plans had to be scrapped.

“There were early conversations [about Hulkling]. [Eddie] was originally called Teddy because we were looking at the artwork and thinking about that. That was a Marvel decision to not have him be Hulkling for the purposes of our show. Within our show, he is not Hulkling.”

“But we pivoted to Eddie because he is named after a person that is important to the writers’ room. It wasn’t sort of teasing the fans, it was one of those lovely tributes to somebody who matters to us.”

It makes sense that Marvel would want to save Wiccan and Hulkling’s relationship for a project focused on the duo like Young Avengers. Agatha All Along was already stuffed to the brim, and trying to force in the history of the Kree and Skrulls in the MCU, as well as trying to make their relationship mean anything more than fan-service likely would’ve been too much for even a skilled showrunner like Jac Schaeffer to handle.
