Joe & Anthony Russo In Talks With Marvel To Direct Avengers 5 & 6
Are the Russo brothers coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? A new report suggests Joe and Anthony Russo are currently in talks to direct the next Avengers films.
Marvel has quite big shoes to fill when it comes to whoever directs their next Avengers projects. The Russo brothers helmed two of the biggest films of all time, crushing all box office records that came before them. It seems the studio’s solution to this dilemma is simply to bring back Joe and Anthony Russo for another go-around!
This report comes from The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that Marvel is in very early talks with Joe and Anthony Russo to direct Avengers: Secret Wars and the as-of-yet untitled Avengers 5. It’s important to stress that the Russo brothers have yet to accept this deal. However, given their prior experience and passions, the outcome is more likely than not.
The Russo Brothers May Return To Marvel
After their success with Avengers: Endgame, it was clear that both Joe and Anthony Russo wanted to step away from the Marvel universe for a while. However, even at the time, the director duo was clear that they’d be open to coming back to helm an adaptation of Avengers: Secret Wars if it ever saw the light of day.
Given Avengers 5 recently lost its director in Destin Daniel Cretton, Marvel was likely looking for someone to helm both that and Secret Wars, given the projects are so closely tied together. This would be an insane amount of work, and the Russo brothers are truly the only people on the planet with the experience to direct projects of that scale and budget.
