Sunbury colourful Victorian-inspired residence hits the market

The Victorian-inspired facade hides a colourful period interior.

A “one-of-a-kind” Victorian-inspired residence designed to showcase period features sourced from historic properties around Melbourne has graced the Sunbury market.

The property’s front door was acquired from an old mansion in Toorak, diamond leadlight windows in the kitchen were repurposed from a Kew mansion, and the striking staircase was taken from a Brighton lolly shop.

Regal red walls distinguish the lounge room from the statement emerald green tones of the kitchen, living and dining spaces, while all the upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms are styled in a soft blue.

The unique four-bedroom house at 14 The Avenue has been listed with price hopes of $1.09-$1.19m.

Blackbird & Wren Sunbury’s Mary Roberts said the vendors employed Craftsmen Builders to create the striking replica in 2000, with the design focused around the heritage features.

“They just love the (Victorian) era and architecture,” Ms Roberts said.

“It’s a stunning property and really takes your breath away. From the towering 4m-high ceilings and chandeliers, everything the (vendors) have put in there is a perfect nod to the era – there’s nothing else like it.

The property was designed to be as authentic as possible to the era.

The kitchen makes a vibrant statement.

“It’s grand on every scale, just the size of the main bedroom alone is enormous.”

Iron lacework, bay windows, perfectly manicured gardens, open fireplaces and ornate cornices add intricate period details to the extravagant property.

Ms Roberts said the “landmark” residence had long been admired by Sunbury locals.

“It’s one of those properties that everyone knows, we’ve already gotten a big response since launching it online,” she said.

The stately 801sq m block is within the area’s “prestigious” Jacksons Hill estate, with parkland views available from the property’s sweeping veranda and balcony retreat.

Ms Roberts said the family were “reluctantly downsizing” but had hoped the new buyers would keep the integrity of the home’s opulent period design.

“Some people have said it could be really beautiful with some updates but others are saying how stunning it is already,” she said.

The property is for private sale.

There’s a picturesque backyard too.

Like stepping back in time.
