‘Superman’: Has This SNL Alum Been Cast As The Daily Planet’s Steve Lombard?
UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Saturday Night Live veteran Beck Bennett has joined the cast of James Gunn’s Superman movie. The original story can be found below…
Superman may have found its Steve Lombard! A new set photo points to a Saturday Night Alive alum taking on the role of the Daily Planet’s sports reporter in the DC Universe.
It’s long been rumored that Steve Lombard would be appearing in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film. While there’s been no official word on who would play the Daily Planet reporter, fans believe they may have discovered the answer themselves. This is because of an eerily similar mustache in a new Superman cast photo.
The man on the far right of the photo is Beck Bennett, and he’s sporting a handlebar mustache synonymous with Steve Lombard in the DC Universe. While facial hair is far from official confirmation that he’ll be playing the Daily Planet reporter, Bennett’s prior history of a clean-shaven face suggests that it is at least a possibility.
Who Is Beck Bennett?
Beck Bennet is best known as a cast member on SNL from 2013 to 2021. This alone is a surprisingly large amount of evidence that he could play Steve Lombard in the DC Universe. Comedian Chris Distefano previously said he had auditioned to play a reporter in the Superman reboot, highly speculated to be Steve Lombard. This means James Gunn is likely looking for a comedic actor to play the role.
Aside from SNL, Beck Bennett has starred in everything from Oscar-nominated projects like Nimona to romantic comedies like Plus One. He certainly has the acting history to stand alongside the rest of the Superman cast. Even if he isn’t playing Steve Lombard, it’ll be interesting to see what role he does play in the DC Universe!
