1950s Marrickville time warp untouched since it was built hits the market with $1.2m hopes

A true time warp at 2 Harney Street, Marrickville, is for sale.

It’s been close to 70 years since it was built and, though much has changed in the world around it, this inner west house has remained the same.

From the crown-moulding to the fireplaces and the cooker, everything inside the house is original from when it was built.

The Harney Street property has two bedrooms and is on the market for the first time in 30 years with a $1.2m guide.

The original kitchen still has an old school cooker.

This represents an attractive opportunity for first-home buyers and those coming out of apartments who are looking to buy on one of Marrickville’s most desirable streets.

Adrian William director Adrian Tsavalas said the time warp was perhaps one of the most original he had come across in the inner west.

“Apart from a lick of paint, everything is very much original and untouched,” he said.

The kitchen still has its original 1950s cooker, while the bathroom has a bright pink toilet and bath tub. There is also a detached lockup garage, sunroom, eat-in kitchen and an established garden.

The sellers had used the residence for 30 years as an investment property with one tenant renting 2 Harney Street for the entire time.

The property is located on two lots — a 328sqm parcel and a 12.5sqm block, which Mr Tsavalas appears to be a government grant issued at some point in the past.

After one week on the market, the residence attracted around 80 groups at the first open. Mr Tsavalas said majority of buyers for the property have so far been first-home buyers, as well as tradespeople and builders looking for a project.
